Walking routes in the Lake District include everything from gentle walks to long distance rambles with steep climbs, and it's safe to say that many of them will reward you with some of the most spectacular views in the country.

Gummers Howe is just a short distance from Hill of Oaks and is a short, family-friendly walk that offers breathtaking views across the lake. Orrest Head is another short walk which benefits from magnificent views. The route back also takes you through Windermere town centre with its parade of pubs, coffee shops and tea rooms.

The West Windermere Way is a newly created route that follows the western shore of Windermere between Newby Bridge and the ferry line, linking to the existing Windermere West Shore Way between Ferry House and Wray Castle. This new route will follow the lakeshore in places (mainly off-road), but will also head away from the lake taking in some key visitor attractions. Make the most of the £2 bus fares – ideal for getting to Newby Bridge/lakeside from the park.
